This section of our website is about “Inclusion Basics.” It is a discussion of the fundamentals of making schools inclusive. We explore the core aspects of inclusive education, starting with describing what inclusion truly means. It is about our education systems embracing and accommodating diversity, ensuring everyone feels valued and welcomed, regardless of their differences. We will explore the laws and policies that mandate inclusion in Canadian schools and classrooms.


We also review the history of segregation and inclusion, providing insight into the struggle to overcome challenges and obstacles that have hindered progress toward inclusive schools and an inclusive society. We have made progress, but not to the level needed in far too many communities in our country. 


Inclusive education challenges the policies, programs and practices of Education Ministries, local school authorities and school leaders. It demands innovative approaches and changes in how students with unique learning needs have been served in the past.  We examine the challenge of funding inclusion in our schools and the related policy and political issues.


We discuss Canada’s international commitments and our country's pivotal role in promoting inclusion globally through the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.


Finally, we share personal perspectives on the value of educating our children and youth in a common learning environment in community schools.

Page description.  Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
